Here is a perfect example of a leader who knows that the right time to move on is to leave on a high note! Arun Sarin, is stepping down as Vodafone's CEO after 5 years at the job, while his tenure has now seen record profits at Voda (VOD) and successful entry in hi-growth markets like India. The Telegraph notes that during Sarin's tenure "Vodafone's customer base has jumped from 100m to 252m under his stewardship and the group's market capitalisation has increased from £78bn to £86bn." Sarin's words confirm that he wanted to leave on a high note:
"I feel that I have accomplished what I set out to achieve, particularly in developing and implementing a new strategy."
Vittorio Colao will be take over the Voda position from Sarin who has a lot of friends and admirers in his home country, India. Sunil Mittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel summarizes the goodwill for Sarin in India:
He is a great professional and a friend. He has had a spectacular stint at Vodafone. He has made every Indian proud. I wish him the very best in his future endeavours
