
Though MySpace traffic is tanking its the largest trafficked social networking site in Feb 2008 according to data released by Compete. Facebook growing over 70% since 2007 is the 2nd largest site.
LinkedIn ranked 8th is also growing fast. Twitter (more about that below) and Ning are other noteworthy sites growing big. Fubar that uses an online pub paradigm is also growing at a phenomenal rate -- ++1000%! What we have seen now is the Head of Social Networking emerge in FB and MySpace. Ning by aggregating the tail is more of a trunk play.
Oh BTW Google backed Orkut ain't that big though its in Top 20
What About Mobile Social Networking?
According to a Report by Pyramid Research by 2012 there will be over 950 million users of Mobile Social Networks. Since Social Networking is all about connecting people around social objects of interest -- its closer to the easy-communication paradigm around which mobile and human beings are wired. Twitter leads the way there, by being in the Top 20 of even the web+mobile list made by Compete. I think thats where Social Networking is poised to go -- to the Mobile world.
