LinkedIn Gets New Home Page — Review
After recently launching its mobile edition, LinkedIn has released a new home page, which looks quite similar to My Yahoo! The new home page is also in line with other Social Networks like Facebook & MySpace. The idea is to give a good sense to users of their professional network when they land on LinkedIn.
Monetization via Ad Sense?
Google AdSense has been introduced for Monetizing. I wonder why? LinkedIn could have done better targetted Ads for example if it sees Yahoo!, Adobe, and Roamware on my profile it could offer Magazine Subscription Offers, Conference Updates, Books from Amazon, Articles from CNET, WSJ, Executive Education Programs from various B-Schools etc…Instead I am seeing a Marriage Bureau ad right now which has no relevance for me.
The most interesting addition to this new home page is the ability to add Customizable Modules for People Search, Answers, Jobs etc. Modules work in a drag and drop fashion. They can be positioned anywhere on the right side of the home page.
Company News shows current news about the company where you are working at. I am not quite clear about how this module works because the title says "discover articles your colleagues are reading"
The new homepage looks nice. I would want the ability to add various News/Blog Feeds related to my professional interests. That way LinkedIn will become my business startup page.
Overall, LinkedIn by far remains one of my most visited websites. Though most of the buzz these days is about Facebook, MySpace and Google's Open Social, LinkedIn has a very strong place in the entire Social Networking game and this is one player that will go a very very long way. I am a fan and sold out. Below is a screen shot of my new home page. (I have removed refrences to individual names in the screen shot.)
