The current Google Logo is based on Typeface Catull BQ made by Designer Gustav Jaeger in 1982. The Publisher of Catull is Berthold. Earlier designs for Google's logo by Kedar tried Adobe Garamond, and ITC Leawood (designed by Les Usherwood). Adobe Garamond is a digital interpretation of the roman types of Claude Garamond and the italic types of Robert Granjon by Adobe type designer Robert Slimbach.
3 interesting early designs of Kedar that caught my eye are here. You can read the rationale for these designs in the WIRED article.
