
In the 11th annual Webby Awards Yahoo! lead or won a number of nominations and awards (Webby Winners Flash Site). Google's missing in several Webby categories is interesting because it was ranked the top innovator of 2007 while Yahoo! didn't make it to the top 10. This ranking was based on a survey by BCG. I continue to think that sometimes earning big money does cause perception changes and consequent improvements in innovation rankings. No? And hey, what about Microsoft and Webby? Good Question.
Yahoo! Real Estate won the People's choice Webby in the Real Estate Category.
Yahoo!'s Flickr won awards in 3 Categories:
- Best Practices (Flickr was competing with big guys Digg, Facebook, Del.icio.us)
- Best Visual Design (Function) -- both Webby and People's Choice Awards
- Community -- both Webby and People's Choice Awards
Infact the Community Award was dominated by Yahoo! with 3 of the 5 nominees and ofcourse the 2 awards. Yahoo! Answers and Yahoo!'s Del.icio.us were the other nominees along with Flickr.
Kevin Sites Hot Zone on Yahoo! News won the Webby Honoree in the News/Documentary/Public Service category.
Yahoo!'s Video remixing and editing service JumpCut was one of the 5 nominees in the 2 categories : Services and Broadband.
For Google: Gap Minder was a nominee in the Best Visual Design (Function) category. YouTube's co-founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley won the Webby in Special Achievement category.
Blog Awards
DealBook and Bannerblog won in Business Blogs category. Techdirt was 1 of the 5 nominees.
We Make Money not Art and TreeHugger won in Culture/Personal Blogs category.
Truthdig won in the Political Blog category.
Finally YouTube's famous lonelygirl15 Jessica Lee Rose won Best Actress award at the first-ever Webby Film and Video Awards.
