According to Always On an upcoming report from ComScore shows that Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) and MySpace are the leading websites for Online Video. Surprised, because the press always had us believe that YouTube and Google are the undisputed kings?
Yahoo! Video ranks 1 going by Unique Streamers and MySpace ranks 1 going by Streams Initiated. Google Video (GOOG) is a distant 8th and You Tube is in 3rd place. The article from Always On also notes the ignorant Press-love for Google:
This is pretty significant considering that YouTube and Google Video have gotten all the press when it comes to who's garnering the biggest video-viewing audiences. But now that third-party figures are available for individual sites, we're beginning to see who's actually attracting those coveted eyeballs.
Further Always On clarifies the double-counting of You Tube Videos on MySpace:
Just to be clear, there is no double counting, according to comScore. MySpace's figures do not include YouTube videos viewed on MySpace. The views are only of the site's own videos viewed either on their property or embedded across the Web on blogs or on distribution partners. So, YouTube's 649 million video streams count the videos viewed on YouTube as well as blogs that might have embedded a YouTube video.
