Many years after Bombay was changed to Mumbai, I was roaming in France and saw an HSBC advertisement still calling Mumbai with its old name. Did the sick Indian politicans get any more than a ego kick and an easy chance to destroy a brand?
The Government of India should ban name changes of cities for petty politics. Indians want less of the sick politicians, more of good governence and surely proper use of their tax money.
Bloggers are upset. Here is one blogger venting out his anger:
If getting rid of colonial hangover is the motive, how about getting rid of "India" itself, shouldn't it be Bharat?
