You Tube & My Space ahead of Yahoo! & Google in Influence Rankings

The Observer has published a list of Most Influential Websites in the Internet History. eBay ranks 1. I am surprised to see Google (GOOG) and Yahoo! (YHOO) get ranked 13th and 14th behind younger entrants like You Tube, FriendsReunited, and MySpace.

While You Tube, Napster, Wikipedia and My Space deserve to counted amongst the "Websites that changed the world" I wonder how Amazon and eBay and others beat Yahoo! and Google to lower ranks.

Yahoo! established the concept of a web portal and continues to be the online traffic leader — but this does not weigh upon the rankings. Most of us 30 somethings start our day with firing up Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo mail rather than seeing a video on You Tube but no that is not enough. Nor the fact that Google has become a verb in the English dictionary, has helped world’s leading Search Engine. I think the ranking is lopsided. Do you agree?

Interestingly MSN doesnt make it to the list. I agree. When you run a copying machine you wont necessarily end up with a lot of influence, even if your copier machine and pockets are big. Microsoft needs to show how it understands the Internet Consumers better than Yahoo! and Google instead of bundling everything in Windows Vista.
