Yahoo! starts modest gains in Search

by Ujwal Tickoo on August 20th, 2006

According to the latest ComScore Data Yahoo! Search is showing a turnaround after losing Search market share to Google (GOOG) for 11 straight months.

Yahoo! Sites posted modest market share gains for the second consecutive month to reach 28.8 percent of U.S. searches, trailing Google Sites, which registered a 43.7 percent share.  Google’s share declined 1 percent from the previous month, ending its impressive 11-month run of consecutive gains.

ComScore also states that Yahoo! (YHOO) and Google have more than 95% share of Web Searches originating from Toolbars. Google Toobar searches were 50% of the total while Yahoo Toolbar had 46%. In IE 7 Microsoft is planning to default to the MSN toolbar and this could hit both Yahoo! and Google.
