In my previous post Will QuarkXPress 7 help Quark against Adobe Systems I had said:
QuarkXPress 7 may be Quark's last attempt to revive it self from an ongoing downsprial (market share loss to Adobe InDesign) -- while arch rival Adobe Systems (ADBE) has built a formidable product line for Print, Web & Video Publishing through the acquisition of Macromedia.
Some good news to bloster Quark Inc.'s confidence could be its recently winning the Editor's Choice award from MacWorld in the Creative Software Category. Finally, with the MacWorld award Quark does not have to run childish advertising campaigns like its infamous post card campaign for QuarkXPress 6.5. That campaign was a clear sign of desperation or a display of bad taste in trying to belittle its worthy competitor Adobe Systems.
Interestingly QuarkXPress 7.0 beat the suite of Studio 8 software from Adobe Systems (ADBE) (Dreamwearver, Fireworks, Flash Professional, and Contribute) that Macromedia shipped last year end (I was on that team :)). What should have really made Quark happy is that they beat a suite of software products that packs more features for Creative Users than QuarkXpress 7 carries.
MacWorld Review of QuarkXPress 7
The Editor's Choice award to QuarkXPress 7 was given by MacWorld UK. In a separate review of QuarkXPress 7 -- the US version of MacWorld did not give stellar ratings to QuarkXPress 7.
This is the unclear part of the whole story to me. Anyone got the insider's story? Guess the two International offices are not talking to each other ;)
