Oracle Corp. (ORCL) has singled out Enterprise Search as one amongst the five targeted areas of growth for the company. The 5 areas outlined by Oracle are:
- Security
- Content Management
- Business Intelligence
- Grid Computing
- Enterprise Search
Google (GOOG) already has two Enterprise Search offerrings that have failed at large. Google Mini is for small sized enterprises and Google Search Appliance for Medium to Large Businesses. The third big player eyeing Enterprise Search is Microsoft Corp.
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) recently vowed to not let Google win in the Enterprise Search market. It will now have to share its attention with both Google and Oracle! Imho Google has a long way to go to win enterprise customers with its shaky track record on privacy issues in Google Desktop Search. in my previous post Google needles Microsoft Corp. -- joins Open Document Group I had quoted Microsoft's Steve Ballmer (CEO) and Kevin Turner (COO) on Enterprise Search being a priority
"Enterprise search is our business, it's our house and Google is not going to take that business....Those people are not going to be allowed to take food off of our plate, because that is what they are intending to do." -- Kevin Turner.
"Search from the desktop to the enterprise to the Internet is a business of great importance and a market of great importance to us." -- Steve Ballmer.
Ballmer said the enterprise search market represents more than $13 billion, and that Microsoft had signed up 35 partners to focus on that area.
