Infosys Technologies celebrates 25th Birthday

Infosys (INFY) was bestowed the rare Nasdaq honor of remotely ringing the Exchange's bell on the company's 25th year of founding. According to a report on Infosys in a leading Indian daily Hindustan Times:

Since Nasdaq's operations are entirely electronic, it can be opened from any location the world over, bringing together investors and market participants at the beginning of each trading day. Incidentally, Infosys is the only third company worldwide to have been bestowed the honour and privilege of ringing the Nasdaq bell remotely.

On its 25th birthday Infosys will disburse INR Rs 126 crore (US$ 25 million) to its Employees. (100 crore ~ 20 million). According to Chief Mentor N R Narayan Murthy "each of the beneficiaries will get a certain amount depending on their tenure in the company."

Infosys got listed on the Nasdaq in 1999 and has a market cap of about 22 billion dollars. It was the first Indian company to get listed on Nasdaq. N R Narayan Murthy one of the founders of Infosys is a business icon not only in India but world wide. He is highly regarded for infusing Infosys with a value culture similar to his own -- high professional standards, service to society, and inclusive philosophy. Narayan Murthy's towering public stature has caused speculation and even interest in the general public that he would join and clean Indian politics. But Mr. Murthy has declined to join politics stating that he would not fit that role.

The annual revenue of Infosys is approximately US $ 2.1 billion and it is based in Bangalore India. Infosys is amongst the top 10 preferred companies to work for by Engineering graduates in India.
