Two Yahoo Widgets to Get Better Organized

by Ujwal Tickoo on May 15th, 2006

Google’s recently released Google Desktop 4 has a Widget approach to the Sidebar. Along with the sidebar, Google Desktop 4 also lets floating widgets stay on the Desktop.

To do.png Since I have privacy concerns about Google Desktop 4 I am happy with the long existing Yahoo Widgets. Here are two great Yahoo! Widgets that I have discovered and found very useful in my struggle to organize my Windows Desktop:
1) What To Do
2) Sort It Later

What To Do

This widget created by Alro Rose, adds a neat To Do List Plus Tool onto your desktop. Click on the + icon to add. Click on the x icon to delte the item and click on the Magnifying glass icon to edit the to do text for an Item in the list.

Red, light red, Blue and light blue color coding shows Highest to Lowest Priority. You can assign a Priority of None to an Item – if you aren’t sure and just want to track something.

(This widget has 198998 downloads at this count.)

Sort It Later
Sort it.png This widget created by BigBadaBoom, provides folks like me, who keep downloading or saving documents onto their Desktop — keep their desktop clean without losing a single repository concept.

You just drag and drop all items (you otherwise store on your PC desktop) onto the Sort icon. All such files, folders, executables get stored in a designated folder.

Example: in my case I created a folder C:/Sort It. Now I know its all in Sort It instead of the Desktop. If a Hard disk crashes, all documents kept on desktop are difficult to restore. Using Sort It Later saves you from that worry. Also, your PC desktop looks cleaner and better organized.

(This widget has had 9759 downloads at this count).

Note: Dont forget to install the Yahoo Widget Engine before you can use any widget. Its a 11 MB for Win and 6.7 MB for Mac download that powers all of the 1000s of widgets that you can get from yahoo.
