When Red Hat acquired JBoss, maker of open source middleware the move put Red Hat (RHAT) on collision course with Oracle Corp, which has its own middleware products. JBoss was a rumored acquisition target for Oracle (ORCL) and Red Hat (RHAT) has been an Oracle Corp. partner for Linux.
Oracle has supported Red Hat (RHAT) Linux to counterbalance Microsoft’s Window OS. “Now that Red Hat....competes with us in middleware, we have to re-look at the relationship – so does IBM,” Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp. had said in a recent Financial Times interview.
On Red Hat’s growing influence and its ambitions to reach beyond the Linux operating system, Ellison added: “I don’t think Oracle and IBM want another Microsoft in Red Hat.”
