
This post continues from my last four posts on Oracle Corp, Red Hat, and Novell.: All eyes on Oracle’s next Acquisition, Red Hat hassles Oracle Corp's Boss, Oracle Corp Rethinking Alliance with Red Hat, and Oracle Corp's interest in Novell.
Oracle Corp. (ORCL) faces several challenges if it buys Novell (NOVL) or another Linux vendor:
- Oracle Corp. is already neck deep in its large number of acquisition integrations for the past 2 years and
- Acquiring SuSE Linux (with Novell) could lead to mistrust by competing software vendors also using and/or supporting open source software
Matthew Aslett on his Open Source Weblog differs from the currently popular thinking that Oracle Corp. could buy Novell or even Red Hat (RHAT). In fact he states that a careful review of the interview transcripts of FT-Ellison interview quoted above would reveal quite the opposite:
It's all good fun, but that is not what Ellison has said at all, in fact the transcript of his interview with the FT is illuminating precisely because it reveals why the company would NOT acquire either Novell or Red Hat, and - apparently - why the company did not buy JBoss.
