Google, Yahoo Inc. and Blogs

by Ujwal Tickoo on May 25th, 2006

This post continues from my two previous posts:

Although Yahoo (YHOO) is the world’s most visited portal and its Blogging service Y! 360 is not amongst the top blogging destinations on the web. Part of the reason is that blogging content created in 360 could be set-up for limited viewership – a walled garden.

I surmise that 360 is not very popular because there are several alternative ways to publish content for limited viewership. Example. Emails or eGroups would have the same effect.

Also, the user experience in 360 seems far different from the normal blogging sites — its a mish-mash of several Yahoo! services — including Review & Rating, Photosharing etc. So, overall if you want a pure-blogging experience — which is where the world is going Y! 360 loses out very badly. On the other hand Google owned Blogger displayed a stunning 538% growth in the last 1 year. Also, as I pointed out in my previous post; Google blog search seems to be a heavily used tool for Searching blog content.

As far as I am concerned, Google (GOOG) seems to be sitting on a Social Search Gold mine. It remains to be seen whether Yahoo will change its approach toward the Blogosphere.
