Playing with Yahoo Mindset
In my previous post I had explained the basics of using Yahoo Inc.’s innovative search technology called Mindset. I will now show how Mindset sorts search results based on how you move the slider between shopping and researching.
When I move the Mindset slider toward "Research-ing" the results shown previously get re-arranged. Thus when my slider was at the mid point of shopping and researching my top 4 results were:
- Self-Actualization: The Peak of Human Achievement
- Maslow Self Actualization — unlearn
- Maslows hierarchy of needs — Wikipedia…
- Maslow Abraham
But now, when I move the slider closer to researching my top 4 results become the following:
- Maslow Abraham
- Maslow’s hierarchy of needs — Wikipedia…
- Self-Actualization, Self-actualize…
- Self-actualization
The top 2 results are the same as previous results ranked 4 and 3 but now results ranked 3rd and 4th were previously ranked 8th and 15th. (Notice the red dotted rectangle showing new and previous rankings of search results).

Cool — did you say you knew these search engines Ujwal?
http://www.grokker.com/ this site will organize your findings under the topics that interest you and so you can easily sort out the research.
http://www.gahooyoogle.com/ this site brings up two screens at the same time so you can see what Yahoo offers you, alongside what Google offer you on a topic. You can scroll up or down in either site at different times or the same time, so that you can compare what the sites offer you:-).

Ellen,
Yes, I have tinkered with Grokker a few times and do plan to blog about it…Its a cool search engine.
Infact the reason I like Grokker is because it provides a cool visual interface to search results.
This is exactly what I had blogged about on my WordPress blog titled Tech Strategist.
The Gahooyoogle engine imho is less complex when compared to Grokker.
Cheers!
