My 10 minutes of Internet Fame bestowed by Google Finance
Last week when Google Finance was launched I had loudly wondered about its value in a world already filled by Yahoo Finance, MSN Money and so forth…One feature that my friend Easton at KMM had pointed he liked (and I agreed) was blog news integration; though overall I was not too impressed by Google Finance. Well courtesy Google Finance and Katie Jacobs Stanton, today March 28, 2006 — I got some ephemeral moments of free fame on the Internet and Google Fianance! I had blogged about the challenges faced by French Software companies and had mentioned Business Objects in my blog What Ails the French / IT Software Industry and Google Finance picked it!
How did I find out about my Google Finance bestowed fame? While checking the site meter for my blog’s web site I realized that Google Finance had sent traffic to my blog! Surprised I checked the trail and found my above mentioned blog listed on the top of Blogs on Business Objects. (See Picture below, my blog surrounded in red rectangle for easy reference.)
What you will notice in the picture I have posted is that blogs do come right at the bottom of the Page — something my good friend at Know More Media, Easton Ellsworth had not liked. According to him:
I don’t object to Google separating the blog posts from the "news" articles (guess which category appears above the fold), but I wonder if the day isn’t soon coming that we’ll see the two categories merged into one by default, with perhaps the option to spearate them. After all, as USA Today points out, news scoops are increasingly coming from blogs and other online sources anyway!
I had agreed with Easton (who had posted a comment on my blog Google Launches Finance Site — a Yahoo Finance me-too) that users should have the choice of viewing Blogs as per their preferences on Google Finance.
Lets see whether Google responds to the discussion between Easton and yours truly! :)
P.S. Easton had posted a good summary of all the postings on Google Finance by KMMers that is worth visiting if you are interested to Know More about this topic!

Here is my personal testimony to the Power of Blogging. I was a reluctant believer in the power of Blogging but am a convert now. Google Web Search, Google Blog Search, Google Finance, and several other Web Resources keep driving traffic…

Thanks for following up on this interesting theme, Ujwal! I guess we should be careful how we approach this - we wouldn’t want to bite the hand that is feeding us! ;) Good post.

Easton,
Although jocular, your point is interesting. Could Google (in some hypothetical future) apply editorial control on which search results “related to Google” get displayed depending upon how positive or negative or neutral the write-up is? I guess Google won’t do that. But then I recall the American Blinds case quoted by John Battelle in “The Search”…
